watching from the wings
my children are no different from yours;
they dream and they scheme,
they dress up and they mess up,
forever confusing the adults with their zeal and their squeal(s);
they are in life and they love life - the moment carries them.
along familiar streets,
we trace our way
to the book borrowing place.
their path is seldom neat...
they loop and they curl,
they jump and they whirl their way
through the concrete;
making like monkeys on the pavements and posts,
weaving in and out the rusty road signs -
no dusty bluebells in this urban sprawl.
my children know how to fly;
when the spirit takes them,
they soar, blind to grown ups' lurching hearts.
i can no more stem
the flow of them,
than i can turn back the tide.
they grow their own way...
i watch, with a curious mind and an open heart,
for the whispers of their soul.
my job is to scatter seeds along their path,
watching closely for which ones get carried away on a breath,
taking root, growing shoots.
these we tend.
in the end,
this is...
a game of faith (not for the fainthearted),
a stepping into the unknown (the place where the magic happens),
a trusting that, deep inside, things are blossoming.
i bear witness to their unfolding;
watching from the wings.

Wow! You're writing style is beautiful! I came to your blog from your comment of Jeff Goins' blog. I was curious because you said your writing style was nothing like you'd expected. I understand what you meant now! :) I love how it sounds! Good work! :)
Bethy, thanks for taking the time to have a read...
I was inspired to comment on Jeff Goin's blog as I have only recently started blogging, and his advice really resonated with me.
I literally sat down one night to kind of document our day, and *clouds and bubbles* is what popped up. It was a real surprise to me...
I wouldn't call myself a writer (yet), but I love the craft of it, finding just the right turn of phrase, pace or rhythm. Glad to hear you enjoyed reading xxx
This is lovely, Angela. Thank you for sharing it with me. I admire how you play with writing forms on your blog, and how you really watch your kids and take note. And how you admire their unfolding!
Thank you for your comments, Patricia, I really appreciate them; I've learnt a lot from you.
I'm just feeling around in the field of writing at the moment as this is all so new to me.
And I am blessed to have three young ones who inspire me.
Writing in this way has allowed me the space to see my children through new eyes...
